10 Ways to Make 2012 Magnificent!

January 24th, 2012 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy, Teamwork

  1. 1.  Assess your life and be completely honest with yourself. If there is an area that you need to work on,  do it now. Stop pretending it is OK, acceptable or just the way it is. Focus on possibility, be solution-oriented. Focus on what does work and get help with what does not. Find and use the countless resources that are available to you. You can create a better tomorrow, if you are willing to do the work.
  2. 2.  Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Do your best and reset the counter every day to zero. Be here now, let go of the past and take your lessons with you, for a better today. Do what you love and do the necessary things you hate to do.
  3. 3.  Get experience, fall forward and learn something new every day. Take massive action and effective action to create the year you know you want.
  4. 4.  Treasure and celebrate the little things, the sunrise, the beauty of a song, the purr of a cat, the craziness of your dog, the giggle and hug of your loved ones. Say thank you often and feel it deeply. Know that every day above ground is a great day.
  5. 5.  Take care of you. Get checked for subluxation once a week, meditate, eat smart, rest, create financial independence and exercise.
  6. 6.  Dance like there is no tomorrow, listen to music that stirs you, enjoy art, go somewhere you never thought you could or would.
  7. 7.  Practice random acts of kindness. Give unexpectedly, help others, and create a habit of making a strangers day.
  8. 8.  Stop complaining; stop making excuses and stop blaming. Your life is a mirror; you get from it who you are.
  9. 9.  Spend more time with other successful chiropractors. Make a commitment to attend the local philosophy meetings every month. At least once a quarter get on a plane and come to my seminar, New Beginnings, IFSCO, Sherman Lyceum, Cal Jam, Parker and or Focus. There is nothing better than being in a room full of inspired, committed chiropractic warriors. Stop spending time with negative and pessimistic people. The people you spend the most time with are the people you will be most like.
  10. 10.  Let 2012 be the year of FINALLY; finally do what it takes to accomplish what you say you want to be, do, and have. Life is not a dress rehearsal!  This is all you have, right here, right now. Isn’t time you really go for it? I see greatness in you!

STUCK in a RUT?

January 18th, 2012 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy, Teamwork

Could this be happening to you? Are you getting stuck in a rut? Are you doing the same old things every day and watching your goals fail to be achieved?

The answer is simple. You might think it’s a little too simple, but falling into a routine can destroy your life. I have very strong beliefs about this because I have seen it happen to many, many people, as I’m sure you have as well.

DC’s and CA’s start off with the brightest hopes for the future, but their routine begins to take over. A common excuse?  “No time, I have no time!” After you’ve lived seventy years of “having no time” to do the things you have always wanted to do, you’ll likely end up with nothing but a flimsy excuse in the end.

This is your life we are talking about here!!! It’s worth taking the time to break the pattern of habit and create the change you wish to see in your world!

Sometimes it’s a matter of a characteristic we all seek in life – that is confidence.  Permanent change requires courage and a strong belief in your ability to succeed, something that we all doubt from time to time. Take these easy steps towards breaking free:

1. Make a decision to change. All things start with a firm decision.

2. Do something different.  Even the smallest thing, like driving to work a different way can change the ‘feel’ of your day!

3. Write your thoughts down for today’s ideas and needs.  It could be the first step towards breaking these old patterns.

Failing on the way to SUCCESS!

January 10th, 2012 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy, Teamwork

If you are a parent, you have most like been through this.  We all experience the joy of watching our children turn over, then crawl, then stand up and then take those first steps. With outstretched arms they stand two or three steps away and encourage the little one to come to them. Chances are about three trillion to one that when the baby falls down the parent is not going to say, “Okay, you had your chance – you blew it! Don’t you ever try to walk again!” That’s absurd, but isn’t it equally absurd to think we can accomplish major things in our lives without experiencing some failures of some kind? We all need to remember that failure is an event, not a person, that success is a process and not just an instant happening. Few succeed overnight. Instead, they succeed over time.
Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Brett Favre, Dan Marino are (or were) extremely effective NFL quarterbacks and yet each of the four has thrown more incomplete passes than 99% of all the quarterbacks who ever threw a football.

Obviously, along the way they also threw an awful lot of completions. The top marketing CA in a chiropractic office has probably missed many opportunities or events BUT because she made 90% more calls then other CA’s, she has schedule an abundance!  There’s never been a Chiropractor who served many patients who, despite his or her best efforts, did not lose some of them. They understand that some people are not ready to ‘play’ in the game of health at their level.

All of us need to remember there is a vast difference between failing in an event and failing in life. Once we understand that, our chances for success substantially increase. We need to remember that winners are people who got up one more time than they were knocked down. Think about it, keep getting up!!

Practice makes Perfect?

November 8th, 2011 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy, Teamwork

You might have thought the old adage is true, practice makes perfect… not true. You have to add one word: PERFECT practice makes perfect.

I wish that I had coined that phrase, but I didn’t. Vince Lombardi did. Practice something time and time again and – if you don’t know what you are doing – all you are really doing is perfecting an error. You have put a ceiling on how good you can become. In our world of health and wellness, we can’t allow a ceiling!  We have got to improve and empower the results so that we can save more lives!

Let me share some examples… A golfer can go out and play eight days a week. He can practice eight days a week. And if he doesn’t know what he is doing, all he is really doing is perfecting his errors – eight days a week. Are you doing that? Are you and your team practicing but you really don’t have the tools, the guidance or the coaching to get the right tools to train and practice on the right things?  Maybe it’s time for you to do so. There is no sense in practicing the wrong things trying to make them right but never getting the results because its always been a wrong process.

Training with the RIGHT or PERFECT process can be like a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps 100 times without a dent in it. And yet on the 101st blow the rock splits in two. It was not that blow that did it, but what followed all that had gone before. If you’re not willing to practice – and practice until you get it right – you will never make the 100 blows that make the breakthrough on the 101st.

I will be FREE of Negative Emotions, once I stop justifying them!

September 24th, 2011 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy, Teamwork

Negativity! Negativity and more negativity!  It has to be the #1 ‘killer’ of a practice, a person or a life that I know, yet we continue to ‘think’ the thoughts of negativity everyday.  Today is the day to change.  Today we are here to start the process of bringing you from the stinkin thinkin, doomy gloomy thoughts that you all surround yourselves with in your practice and in your life and lead you to a higher level of joy, happiness and growth.

Why is it that we are so drawn to always ‘justify’ why we do the things we do?  We rationalize every day the reasons why we are not attracting New Patients; we rationalize the reasons why we’re not growing; we rationalize the reasons why we’re not collecting. We spend your time blaming other people, places and things instead of taking responsibility for what goes on inside our head.  I’m telling you it’s all up here!  If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it again…It all in your head! Success, growth and happiness does not show up one day because you have been in practice long enough and it doesn’t show up because you’ve put your time in…The truth is that we’re all born with the resources to be powerful beyond our wildest dreams if we can only get our selves out of the way and get our  heads straight! You need to realize that your thoughts create your reality and the reality of this is that who you are inside is in exact proportion to what you are and what you will attract into your life!

What do you focus on? Do you focus on the positive ‘opportunities’ of your life or do you focus more on the negative thoughts of “That’ll never work for me”; “That doesn’t work in this town” ; “Patients in my area can’t afford care”.  How many of your have heard that go through your head silently?  Most of us talk to ourselves so badly!  We focus our minds on where we are falling apart, where we are a failure or failing in our life, instead of looking to where we are a success. This is what goes through most people’s minds everyday and yet they wonder why their life isn’t what they want it to be!  Next time you feel like you’re a failure, ask yourself… ‘I’m a failure compared to what?”  I’ll tell you compared to what, compared to what you BELIEVE! Where are you a success?

When you feel like your starting on the wrong track mentally, slam on the brakes!  Slam on the brakes and turn your car around!  You have to remember that you are in control! You can change the ‘direction of where you are going by admitting that you are on the wrong road. It starts with you.  You get to put your foot on the gas! You also can, if your choose, ‘keep’ your foot on the brake.  You decide.  I do know that by putting the mental pedal to the metal, you’ll get this car called success moving a whole lot faster.

I want you to be free of your ‘Negative Emotions.’ I want you to be free of your anger and frustration, free of your guilt and fear.  The only way to be free is to find the source of all these emotions and thoughts inside you, the feelings that keep showing up for you and learn to handle them with love.  Learn to break these things down, into smaller bites until you can chew them up and learn what they are here to teach you.  If you don’t do this, these things will keep showing up for you over and over again, until you can learn to conquer them with love. It’s a universal law.  So do what it takes and start taking control of your power!!!

Be INSPIRED and share your INSPIRATION!

September 14th, 2011 | Posted in CA's, Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Assistant, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Teamwork

I want all all CA’s to understand how important their role is in the overall success of the practices.  If success depends on the D.C. being fully inspired then who better than the C.A. to make sure inspiration is a regular occurrence in the practice!  Below are some  tips and ideas for YOU to add inspiration to your office and life.  Here’s a few ideas that were discussed:

  1. Bonus the Doctor: Yes, why not challenge your D.C. to a goal and a small reward once they have achieved it.  It will certainly be an unexpected surprise!  Take them out for lunch for a change or offer to make them their favorite homemade treat!
  2. Complement your D.C.’s Performance: Everyone loves a compliment and acknowledging your D.C.’s efforts and hard work will lead to like behavior in the future!  So, if they’re diligent about their Pass Off procedures or have been remembering their NP scripting be sure to give them a “Pat on the Back” in recognition of their success!
  3. Share your D.C.’s Performance with other Staff: If your D.C. is doing great be sure the entire team knows it!  Why not acknowledge your D.C. in front of the entire team.  That always feels good when they do it for us!  “Everybody, I just have to share that Dr. Bewell answered the phone for me when I was busy with a new practice member!  He followed the NP Scripting to the letter.  I was just so proud of him and it really helped me out because I didn’t have to call the NP back or worry about their objections when they came in for their appointment.  Thanks Dr. Bewell!  That really meant a lot that you would learn and use that scripting along with the rest of us.”
  4. Nominate your D.C. for a Community Award: The ultimate in recognition AND a great public relations strategy to boot!  Many communities have awards for volunteers and “do-gooders”.  Look at all your D.C. does out in the community.  They donate countless hours to their community outreach program providing education and health screenings in the community.  I thing that’s worthy of an award, don’t you?  Just think how honored your D.C. will feel.  What a way to renew and refresh their passion!
  5. Celebrate a Milestone: Make it a point to celebrate your D.C.’s birthday, practice anniversary or other milestone.  Include your practice members in the act too!
  6. Leave your D.C. Little Notes: If your D.C.’s been struggling with a challenge be diligent in communicating even the smallest successes.  One office shared that they would pass a little note to their D.C. when he was running behind schedule with practice members.  One day, while he was having a particularly “on” day, which of course meant they were “on schedule”, the CA’s passed him a note, “Great job!  You’re on time today!”. Imagine his surprise.  It sure left a positive impression and a reason to strive for more on-schedule days!  Heidi was a good one for leaving notes for her D.C. in her day (as a CA).  No place was sacred…sticky notes left under the toilet lid, notes in coat pockets and messages on the mirror in lipstick.  Don’t underestimate the element of surprise when it comes to sharing fun and inspiration.
  7. Send a Card: Make it a point to leave a “thank you” note for your D.C. showing appreciation for all they do.  You could also acknowledge a success with a new skill or process in the office with a card of congratulations.  And if you know your D.C. ishaving struggles leave a card of encouragement where they are sure to find it.  E-cards sent to his personal email account can be fun too!
  8. Get your Practice Members into the Act: Everyone feels great when others take notice.  One office shared how their D.C. had been striving for a professional appearance, personally.  To maintain his sense of style he prided himself on his “fun” ties.  The CA’s decided to turn this into a way to encourage involvement with the practice members and asked them each to take note of the doctor’s tie when they went back for their adjustment.  Of course they all did and the doctor was proud that everyone was noticing his “fun” style!
  9. Plan for Acknowledgement and Appreciation: We all get busy and sometimes it’s hard to remember to show our appreciation and acknowledge hard work and extra effort.  While we should train ourselves to recognize these moments sometimes a reminder is necessary.  Be sure to mark your calendar every week to reflect on the day/week prior…was there an event or success that should be acknowledged?  Look to the week ahead…is there a milestone that should be celebrated?
  10. Set up a Formal Program of Acknowledgement: If spontaneous inspiration is a challenge in your office you may just need some practice in establishing the habit.  Set up a formal program to acknowledge success, reward extra efforts and share inspiration.  Create a “Pat on the Back” certificate and make them available to your entire team.  Fill them out and distribute them at your team meetings.  Post them by your desk as a reminder of how awesome everyone on your team really is!

Your Practice Will Never Outgrow Your Self-Esteem

August 28th, 2011 | Posted in Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous

When you think about “PERSONAL LIFE SUCCESS”, what comes to your mind?  Do you think about material things?  The cars, the house, the cash, the business success, the ipad etc… or maybe you recall every drip of sweat it took to get you to your level in life?  Do you feel it was worth it?  Are the material things worth it or is there more to this PERSONAL LIFE SUCCESS then that?  How are you feeling about YOURSELF?  How are you living your life?  Do you live life with energy and gusto, or do you live tired, bored and negative?

Living a SUCCESSFUL LIFE has little to do with net-worth or material things.  It has everything to do with self-worth or self confidence.  Your LIFE VALUE or personal value is a direct result of your self-esteem and beliefs about yourself.  Do you realize that 2 put of 3 people suffer from low esteem and consider themselves less worthy than others?  In order to really create personal success, the kind that leaves you feeling full of spirit and power, you must follow some simple life rules… Don’t give away another day… EMPOWER your self-worth and self-esteem with some simple strategies!

Quit comparing and thinking about others in relation to you: PLEASE don’t try to be like everyone else.  Comparing yourself to others only pushed you deeper into low self-worth and confidence.  Remember, you are the only YOU there is and you have  your own strengths, ideas and talents.  Think of you being the best YOU!  Improve and develop yourself, but don’t get down on yourself for not being like the ‘others’.  Be great in YOUR way.
Don’t be afraid to fail: Everyone fails; it’s part of being a human being.  Failure is a necessary part of growth and success.  Look at Michael Jordan: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” You never make the shots you don’t take!  Take the shots, miss occasionally but win more often then none!

DELETE your mental computer: Mental Computer?  Yes, your brain!  Each day your add to your mental computer all the things that happen and occur and at the end of the day you can SAVE and DELETE!  DELETE the mean, hurtful and unconstructive things others say.  Criticisms are good as long as they are meant to improve you, however when people use their words to demean, manipulate, degrade and control you, DELETE them! EMPTY your hard drive of those words, and the accompanying feelings!  Remember it’s their problem…NOT yours.  DELETE and then ENTER new words of power…. “I am amazing” I am an awesome Doctor” “I am worthy of all life’s blessings”

Get Passionate!: Passion fuels your success.  Passion fuels your power.  Get  on fire about what you love, starting with yourself!  The more passion you feel, the more success your attract.  You will attract the people, places and things that strengthen that passion, just watch!

What makes a CA or DC ‘GET BETTER RESULTS’?

August 15th, 2011 | Posted in Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous, Parker Philosophy

Many times I am asked ‘How did you get the results you got when you were in an office?’  I have to say that every person is different and everyone has a style and a personality that helps them to achieve their level of greatness.  However with that said, here are some ideas that made me work towards the best results possible!

ONE: I really worked with my team, it was not me alone that did it all, however I had to be a    driving force to make things happen. I took off the Horse blinders that made me look straight ahead at my work alone and the patient specific tasks and open the spectrum of what this CA Position really meant and what I really was to do. That vision was to help GROW and EMPOWER people to make a lasting life change!  I wanted to be the best CA and have the best team around me!

TWO: I talked and talked to people. Every patient I connected with, one on one even if it was for 1 minute, I made it feel like it was always about them and how they were amazing to help share this chiropractic message and how good it felt to do it.

THREE: ACCOUNTABILITY was BIG… I didn’t just ask for a referral, I helped them, checked up on them and found ways to make it so easy, they couldn’t say no!  They adapted to my energy and  our vision of the office.”

FOUR: “No was not a word I listened to…I was going to get my result, one way or another…. I had to be STRONG, and STEADY… No hesitation on the approach. I have to believe what I was saying and why I was saying it.”

FIVE: “Stretch,… I did this a lot, I stretched to see what I was capable of. It made me feel like the GEL  ARMSTRONG or GUMBIE but I kept stretching. Are you stretching?  Because when you are… you feel it!  In office, in person and in results!”

ROCK it my Fellow CA’s and DC’s!  You have the power!

Is Summer Over Yet?

August 1st, 2011 | Posted in Chiroadvance, Chiropractic Consulting, Chiropractic Marketing, Chiropractor Coaching, Heidi Farrell, Miscellaneous

Yes, it’s that time of the year again!  Summer is starting to wind down and many of you (in business) feel the stagnant energy of vacations and barbecues, the things that keep your practice members away from your office!  I get exhilarated each August when I see the focus increase and the stagnancy decrease!

What are you doing to re-focus YOU and YOUR team on the goals of the office?  Maybe a team Jam Session? Maybe a Marketing Intervention to empower and add to your agenda for fall?

Whatever it is, take a moment and read these tips to empower your Fall Back to Health program…

*  Dig out the marketing plan and blow the dust off it! It’s time to get into action. Make sure you look at the events occurring in your area as well as the balance of internal education and internal referral acquisition. No plan is a plan to fail, so juts by having a details plan with action steps, you are already in the ‘golden zone’.

*  Training!  Training and more Training!  It’s time to tighten the belt and buckle down to some team training! Pick a time bi-weekly, set a schedule and work it!  Don’t just talk, role play!

*  Pump up your communication in the office. If you have been dragging with personal talk, start to turn the conversations around to health and wellness! Ask socratic questions that get the practice member thinking! They know the right answers!

All of this is just the first step ‘back’ to the world of the focused and the empowered! staying the course is what takes work! i know you can do it. Stay tuned for future posts to help you stay focused the easy way!

How to Maximize your Newspaper Coverage beyond Facebook!

March 13th, 2011 | Posted in Miscellaneous

A few weeks ago, a CAS Member, we’ll call him Dr. Feelgood, was quoted in his local newspaper in an article about chiropractic and pregnancy. His question to us was, “Do you have any ideas on how to utilize this article for marketing other than putting it up on Facebook?”

Below are our ideas. You may want to save a copy for your future reference. Also, if you have any ideas to add, please post them below!
1. Purchase extra copies of the newspaper and scatter the articles around the office for people to read. Make it an “assignment” like you would having them read an Educational Power Card prior to their adjustment. At the table explain that you wanted them to read the article not to see your name in print but to reinforce that they are in the right place, they are doing the right thing for their health, and that chiropractic is verybeneficial for pregnancy, child birth, etc. Then take the opportunity ask if they know anyone who’s expecting. Be sure to have a Care to Share package ready for them to pass along to their referral, as well as a copy of the article of course. Track these efforts for follow-up and accountability.
2) Make good quality copies of the article and include them in new patient packets, make them available at screening events, etc. Staff should give a copy to every expectant mom they know. Ask patients who are attending child-birth classes to take some to their class for the other moms to be!
3) Send a letter to all the midwives, OB/GYN’s, pregnancy groups, Mom’s groups, etc. and include several copies of the article along with your business card for referrals. Maybe even a special offer for a first visit or chiropractic pregnancy check-up.
4) Add a link to the article to your website with the headline, “See what one Goshen News reporter had to say about Dr. Feelgood!”
5) Add a little blurb to your next e-newsletter and include a link to the article. This is another great opportunity for you to generate referrals. Include a request asking the reader to forward the e-newsletter along to every expectant (or soon to be expecting) woman they know. Dont’ forget the fathers-to-be too!
6) If the reporter has a Facebook page, post on her wall a thank you or kudos for the great article (and include a link to it so people who see your post have a reference). Do the same on the newspaper’s Facebook page.
NOTE: Don’t forget that once your article link is posted to your practice Facebook page, all staff who are on Facebook must “share” the post with their Facebook friends so people beyond your page’s followers see it!
Lots of great ideas here and of course they are specific to Dr. Feelgood’s article, however they could be easily adjusted and adapted to any media exposure you receive! Good luck and take it to the EXTREME!

Heidi Farrell
